Rana Esfandiary is a Ph.D. candidate and Visiting Assistant Professor of design & technology at the University of Kansas. She received her MFA degree in scenography from the University of Kansas where she designed multiple shows including Summer and Smoke, Dog Sees God, Adding Machine, and Mousetrap. She has been Assistant Director of A Soft Scape (2016, Just KC Meltingpot Theatre), Rachel (2016, KC Meltingpot Theatre), Welcome To Aroyo’s (2016, University of Kansas), and Raisin in the Sun (2015, University of Kansas).
She is currently working on her dissertation, Otherwise the Gap: Performing Identities in the Iranian Contemporary Art and Performance in Diaspora, which she is scheduled to defend in Spring 2018. Her research areas are Race and Performance studies, Ritual and Religious Studies, and Scenography.
